NEW BEDFORD – Students from Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton earned 17 medals – including five coveted gold ones - at the SkillsUSA District I Competition held at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School on March 1, 2019. A State Officer Candidate from the school was also chosen.

Blue Hills’ State Officer Candidate is Christopher Alcimbert (Randolph), who is studying Cosmetology.

The advisors for the Blue Hills chapter of SkillsUSA are teachers Janice LaVoie and Stacy Hedges.

SkillsUSA is a prestigious national organization that sponsors numerous activities for vocational students, including rigorous competitions in dozens of technical categories at the local, district, state, national and international levels. Students are eligible to receive bronze, silver or gold medals based on the excellence of the projects they do and the quality of their presentation to the judges. SkillsUSA also aims to cultivate good citizenship, an appreciation of teamwork, professionalism, leadership, a sense of pride in doing outstanding work, and a strong work ethic.

The winners of gold and silver medals are eligible to compete at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference from April 25-27, 2019 in Marlborough, Mass.

Blue Hills Principal Jill Rossetti said, “Congratulations to our District medalists, aspiring medalists and teachers who encourage, advise, coach and guide the practice for our SkillsUSA students.
